BC Chamber of Commerce Statement on BC Economic Plan

In response to the B.C. Government’s release of their new economic plan, StrongerBC: A Plan for Today, a Vision for Tomorrow (StrongerBC), Fiona Famulak, President and CEO of the BC Chamber of Commerce, released the following statement:

“The B.C. Government’s economic plan unveiled today provides a compelling vision.

“The government’s pillars for inclusive and clean growth are consistent with the goals of a more inclusive, innovative and competitive economy, as articulated in our Big Thinking for Small Business three-part plan for economic recovery. However, the government’s plan lacks the detail of how the desired outcomes will be delivered along with the costs associated. Until more information is made available, StrongerBC is an aspirational vision.

“The plan’s focus on people is important; however, jobs only exist if there are healthy businesses to create them. In order for businesses to thrive, they need certainty, particularly cost certainty. The cost of delivering StrongerBC cannot, therefore, be downloaded onto the shoulders of businesses through new or additional taxes and fees.

“It is absolutely critical the government reflects the needs of businesses as they implement their plan. We look forward to engaging government to ensure our members’ voices are heard as the vision is brought to life.”
