BC Chamber of Commerce Announces Search for New CEO

Dan Baxter, Director of Policy and Government Relations named Interim CEO

The BC Chamber of Commerce has commenced its search for their next President and CEO. Led by national executive search firm Leaders International, the selected candidate will be a visionary leader who will help shape and support a prosperous future for businesses in BC.

“We are excited to kick-off our search for a new leader who will help clarify and promote the value of the BC Chamber, and continue to evolve the organization to remain progressive and innovative,” said Aleece Laird, Board Chair of the BC Chamber of Commerce. “The candidate will demonstrate resilience, perseverance, and show grit as they will lead and support our members immediately as they transition from crisis to recovery – and beyond, to help them grow and compete.”

On the heels of the launch of the CEO search, the BC Chamber of Commerce Board Chair also announced that Dan Baxter, Director of Policy and Government Relations, has been named interim CEO. Dan has been with the BC Chamber for seven years and has been instrumental in increasing the collaboration and engagement on policy development among local Chambers and Boards of Trade, and modernizing the Chamber network’s engagement with BC government by developing and facilitating successful regional consultations between senior civil servants and local Chambers. Prior to his time with the Chamber, Baxter spent three years with the federal government working for the Honourable Ed Fast, former Minister of International Trade and Minister for the Asia-Pacific Gateway.

“With a new majority government in place, Dan’s role as interim CEO comes at a critical time when we need to remain focused on communicating what is on BC’s mind, and amplifying the voice of local Chambers and Boards of Trade,” said Laird. “While we conduct our search, Dan will lead our continued effort to engage and action both the immediate and long-term priorities of the BC business community. We are also anticipating meeting with Premier John Horgan and his cabinet to share what is top of mind for our members during this significant time in our history, as we face the recovery of the COVID-19 pandemic.”
