BC Chamber CEO Speaks out on the Importance of Chambers in Economic Recovery

Now more than ever, chambers matter.

Like you, in the past month we’ve had to pivot quickly. Our full-time job has been to advocate on behalf of the thousands of local businesses like yours that have been impacted (and in many cases devastated by) the current economic downturn.

Our network insights—gathered through bi-weekly ‘pulse check’ surveys are informing the government supports that are announced almost daily. Most recently you’ve been asking for better wage subsidies, and urgent solutions around commercial rents and tax cuts and deferrals. The government continues to respond by delivering programs based on our recommendations, but there is more work to be done.

At the BC Chamber level, we sit on the Premier’s Economic Recovery Task Force and we’re taking your concerns – and ideas – right to Premier Horgan and Minister James every Thursday morning.

Many of the support measures already introduced by all levels of government have resulted from the unwavering advocacy efforts of our chamber network.

We won’t rest until BC businesses like yours are back on their feet again.
